A Day in the Life: Andreea Craciunescu, Yard Manager

1. What does a typical day look like for you in the yard?
I start at 7 AM, checking the wash bay schedule as priorities often shift. Then, I review emails to stay updated on all functions and ensure any requirements are in place for the yard. I coordinate trailer parking, manage the wash bay and cleaning team, support maintenance, and oversee any client viewings.

2. How do you ensure every vehicle meets the highest standards before heading back out?
As soon as trailers return, they go straight to the wash bay. The maintenance team logs any defects, and we take photos for quality checks. I have high standards, and my team knows I expect every vehicle to leave the yard in top condition.

3. What’s the key to keeping the yard running smoothly, especially on busy days?
Teamwork and clear planning. We collaborate with dispatch, planning, and account managers while using an IT system that keeps all planning information visible and updated in real time.

4. What’s the biggest challenge in managing the yard, and how do you handle it?
Balancing time and priorities across teams while ensuring everyone has what they need. It’s a fast-paced industry, so I focus on keeping my team well-informed, motivated, and equipped to do their jobs efficiently.

5. What’s one thing people might not realise about what goes on behind the scenes?
Many think it’s just a simple clean, but it’s much more. Our trailers return from tough locations – fields, remote sites, and challenging terrains – often with heavy dirt and defects. We restore them to a near-new condition before they head out again.

6. What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
I love the industry, and no two days are ever the same. I also enjoy a challenge – some trailers come back in rough shape, but seeing them leave in top condition is incredibly satisfying.

7. If the yard had a theme song, what would it be and why?
“Happy” by Pharrell Williams – it keeps the energy positive and uplifting for the whole team.

8. If you could sum up working in the yard in three words, what would they be?
Teamwork. Cleanliness. Satisfaction.
